MARKER – Visual Identity
Design concept & branding by Hannes Arvid Andersson & Klaas Hendrik Hantschel (Nonverbal Design)
The visual identity for MARKER was developed to reflect its mission: bringing contemporary art to a broad audience in an open and accessible way. As the manifestation took place on Groningen’s central square, the Grote Markt, the design aimed to be playful, fresh, and dynamic, drawing inspiration from graffiti, sketch illustration, and contemporary graphic design. By incorporating a vibrant and layered aesthetic, the branding conveyed a sense of movement and spontaneity, mirroring the diversity of artistic expressions presented at the event.
Manifestation & Partners
MARKER was a ten-day art manifestation held from May 31 to June 9, 2018, transforming the Grote Markt into a stage for contemporary art. Six artists explored the square’s historical and cultural significance, creating site-specific works that engaged visitors in new perspectives on urban space. The project was a collaboration between NP3 and CBK Groningen, combining their expertise in supporting and showcasing experimental and contemporary visual arts in the Northern Netherlands.
In addition to the public manifestation, exhibitions at NP3 and CBK Groningen (May 19 – June 16, 2018) provided deeper insight into the artistic process and research behind the artworks. The initiative strengthened the regional art sector by commissioning artists to create works in public space while offering audiences an interactive and immersive experience of contemporary art.
